Different Levels of CPR Classes

CPR classes are targeted to their audience. The general public does not get the same training that paramedics must have. Knowing which level of CPR training you need is the first step to finding a class.

Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers

Also called CPR for Professional Rescuers, these CPR classes are required for emergency medical personnel. Don't let the term basic fool you; this level of training covers CPR and removing airway obstructions (choking) for adults, infants and children. This class also covers AED, ventilation devices, barriers for performing rescue breathing and two-person CPR techniques. If you're planning on going into the medical field, this is the level of training you want. This a also a good option for many day care providers.

CPR for Friends and Family Classes

The simplest form of CPR can be learned in about an hour. It only covers CPR for adults, which the American Heart Association defines as eight years old and older. This level of training requires the least amount of medical know-how and is perfect for empty-nesters looking to be ready in case the unthinkable happens to a spouse. If you have access to an automated external defibrillator (AED) at work or at home, training for that equipment can be added to this course. (This course does not provide a CPR Certification card)

Heartsaver - Adult, Infant and Child CPR Classes

If you work at a office, this course is OSHA approved. If you care for kids under eight years old, this is the CPR class for you. It is essential for anyone who spends a lot of time with kids to know how to perform CPR on them. Maybe even more important is knowing how to clear an airway obstruction (choking). If you coach or volunteer at a school, church, community club or daycare, then you need to learn infant and child CPR. We also include AED.  Through an AED program employees will be better prepared to save the life of a co-worker, friend, family member, or stranger. AEDs have helped save many lives, and with a good implementation plan and proper training, one can help save more lives.
