Even Younger Children Are Able to Learn and Perform CPR
Think elementary-school-age children are too young to learn basic life support? A new study from the Medical University of Vienna, Austria, suggests that even most nine-year-olds have the physical and cognitive abilities to correctly perform CPR, and according to the researchers, starting early and retraining as children get older may be an excellent way to promote long-term CPR-skill retention.

Spread of Defibrillators to Home and Office Increases Need for Training
Most cardiac arrests occur at home with others present
While the American Heart Association and the National Institutes of Health are still studying the use of the FDA approved Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) in the home, where almost 80 percent of cardiac arrests occurs, the devices are popping up in fitness centers, airports, offices and, yes, even homes. There is growing concern that more people be trained in CPR and the use of these new life-saving devices.
